Blue Monday

On the third Monday night of each month, KASU presents the "Blue Monday" concert series at the Red Goose Restaurant, 101 South Pruett Street in downtown Paragould.  Shows begin at 7:00 p.m.

The concerts feature primarily blues musicians from our region, but you can expect to hear not only Delta blues but some rockabilly, old-time rock and roll, and classic country music.

There is no admission fee, but KASU will "pass the hat," collecting money to pay the musicians.  The Blue Monday concert series is made possible thanks to support from MOR Media and Bibb Chiropractic.

For more information, contact KASU Development Director Mark Smith at 870-972-2283 or msmith@astate.edu.

Upcoming concerts:

February 20: The Vikki McGee Band

March 19: The Shindiggers with special guests the Spencer Brothers

Vikki McGee and her band will perform for the next KASU Blue Monday concert at the Red Goose Restaurant’s grand hall facing Pruett Street in downtown Paragould, February 20 at 7 p.m.

Vicki McGee is a fourth generation musician from Port Barré, Louisiana, deep within Cajun Country.  Her great grandfather Dennis McGee, celebrated for his fiddle playing, was one of the earliest recorded Cajun musicians. Vikki’s uncle Gerry McGee played lead guitar for the 1960s group The Ventures and also in Kris Kristofferson’s band.  Vikki chose music for a career early in life and toured with her band Louisiana Fire in the 1990s, opening for performers Tanya Tucker, Tracy Lawrence, Mickey Gilley and many others.

The current Vikki McGee Band includes Vikki on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Cindy Shepherd on keys, Chris Whitten on lead guitar, Sonny Campbell on bass guitar/ background vocals and her oldest son Jacob on drums. Vikki’s daughter Kierra often sings background vocals and a younger son takes a guitar solo from time to time.  The band is known for its wide range of musical genres and its ability to serve varied audience sizes, from small private parties to   night  clubs to large outdoor events.

For the past ten years Vikki has blended her music career with raising her children.

When not on stage, Vikki concentrates her efforts on teaching her vocal students and working in her recently completed home studio where she is currently recording tracks for her latest album:  “One More Song.” Slated for release later this year, the album promises to be   reflective   of the experiences from a road seasoned and truly uncompromised musician.

Admission to the Blue Monday-Paragould concert featuring the Vikki McGee Band is free with the help of   sponsors Bibb Chiropractic, MOR Media, Inc. and KASU.  It’s a KASU tradition to pass the hat and  audience members are encouraged to show voluntary appreciation for the band with tips.
