Battle of Helena Commemoration this weekend

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, Delta Cultural Center and Helena Advertising and Promotion Commission will sponsor a three-day commemoration of the Battle of Helena Friday through Sunday. Spotlight on the Arts-Pierce Pettis Concerts at Arts@311

Singer-songwriter Pierce Pettis is performing two concerts Saturday night in Jonesboro. This "songwriter's songwriter" has recorded 10 albums of songs that include "You Move Me" which was recorded by Garth Brooks. Pettis will appear in concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at TheArts@311 on South Church in Jonesboro, just south of the intersection of Huntington and Church. He will present a second set of songs at 9:00 pm with seating preference given to those who weren't able to get seats for the earlier set.

Jonesboro's new city hall

City employees are in a new city hall, located at an old bank building at 300 South Church Street in Jonesboro. The new location is described as being a "one-stop" shop for Jonesboro citizens. In November, the city's engineering, planning, and inspection will also come to the new city hall. KASU's Johnathan Reaves visited the new building and has this report.

Spotlight On The Arts-Imagining Geronimo: An Apache Icon in Popular Culture

Geronimo was a prominent leader of the Bedonkohe Apache who fought against Mexico and the United States for their expansion into Apache tribal lands for several decades during the Apache Wars. "Geronimo" was the name given to him during a battle with Mexican soldiers. In this Spotlight on the Arts, KASU's Marty Scarbrough talks with a familiar voice on KASU, Dr. Bill Clements. Dr. Clements wrote a book on Geronimo, which is featured in this report.

ASU Debate team sees success
