JONESBORO, AR – On October 26th, over 500 people attended the taping of the WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Michael Johnathan brought his worldwide multimedia broadcast to Riceland Hall at the Fowler Center, recording a unique program featuring all Arkansas musicians. Paying tribute to famous names in music and entertainment along the way – from Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty to Levon Helm and Billy Bob Thornton – Johnathan introduced lesser known but no less talented musicians who performed on the program. After a beautiful opening song performed with the Delta String Quartet, Michael Johnathan introduced bluesman Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, a native of Helena who performed with Muddy Waters and other blues greats. Following up the traditional blues, twelve-year-old Caleb Cobb of McCrory wowed the audience with his fiddling skills, accompanied by his dad Carl. The Apple Brothers of Batesville added their bluegrass licks to the mix, with Caleb joining in on one number. Then it was back to the blues with Thomas Nelson of Hope wailing on his harmonica. Runaway Planet of Little Rock got feet tapping with their hard-driving bluegrass, followed by the haunting sounds of Greenwillis from Mountain View. The Fowler Center audience got to participate in the experience of taping a live show for radio, TV, and internet broadcast, and they got in on promoting the program. As Michael Johnathan recorded a promotional announcement for the program, the audience, on cue, shouted out, “The WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour!” That announcement, and the program itself, will be broadcast at a later date on nearly 500 radio stations around the world, including KASU! After the taping, members of the KASU Conductor’s Club were treated to a special private reception with Michael Johnathan and others who performed on the program. The special taping of WoodSongs, featuring Arkansas musicians, made for a very special evening at the Fowler Center. It was a great night for Arkansas, for Jonesboro, for ASU, for KASU, and especially for KASU Conductor’s Club members! The WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour can be heard each Sunday at 10:30 a.m., on KASU 91.9 FM, the broadcasting service of Arkansas State University.
