The 3rd annual Arkansas Science Festival is the state's only science festival. It is a two week event meant to be a celebration of science. Dr. Amy Pearce is professor of psychology at Arkansas State University and the festival's organizer.
"The goal is to bring people to our events where they can have fun," said Pearce.
"They are having fun by learning or participating in some activity, demonstration, maybe hearing a seminar, maybe going to a workshop, maybe interacting with, what we call a STEMprofessional, and again, they are enjoying what they are doing.”
Pearce said the festival has grown over the years from 2,000 guest in its first year to nearly 4,000 last year. She said the festival started with events at the A-State campus, but has grown over the years to include other venues around Jonesboro.
“The hope is that this festival and the events associated with it will eventually spread from the Jonesboro campus to other campuses across the state,” said Pearce.
Festivities begin on Friday with a Mad Scientist Glo Run and Science Fun Night at 6pm on the ASU-Jonesboro campus.
The science fest will conclude on October 14 with 2 events. The first event is a program at the ASU Museum called Science is Electric at 12:30. The Jonesboro Area Brewers Association will close out the festival with the Science of Beer presentation at The Arts at 311 later that evening.
