CORRECTION: ASU Board of Trustees to consider new housing

Additional student housing on the main campus of Arkansas State University will be discussed Friday by the ASU Board of Trustees.

Zimmer Development is seeking to build on 25 acres of land that is on the campus of Arkansas State University.

Under the resolution to be considered, Zimmer would build undergraduate and graduate housing on the main campus.

Zimmer would build and operate the housing, possibly in two phases. The first phase of undergraduate and graduate housing is expected to be complete by 2017.

Under the agreement, Arkansas State University would receive $200,000 for 35 years for the undergraduate housing and $105,000 for 35 years for the graduate housing. If the second phase is agreed upon at a later date, more undergraduate and graduate housing would be added.

That means Arkansas State would receive an additional $100,000 for the second phase of undergraduate housing and $80,000 for the second phase of graduate housing. More details on the project and the number of beds will be released during Friday's meeting.

In other news, the board will also consider renaming the Art Department, to offer different certificates and degrees in Jonesboro, and will consider room and board rates at ASU Jonesboro and ASU-Beebe. View the entire agenda at www.asusystem.edu.
