Craighead County has been declared a disaster area by Governor Asa Hutchinson.

The official announcement came from a press release of the Craighead County Office of Emergency Management over the weekend.  Public Assistance Programs and Individual Assistance Programs have been authorized to assist eligible applicants affected by the May 24th Flood.

Public Assistance Programs are for affected governmental organizations.  Learn more about Public Assistance Programs here.  Individual Assistance Programs are for eligible homeowners and renters affected by disasters.  Businesses, secondary homes, vacation homes, and outbuildings or shelters are not eligible. Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin called the declaration a “great relief” to the city in an official statement released Saturday.

Here's Mayor Perrin's full statement:

This comes as a great relief to our city and so many of our people who are suffering from the consequences of the storm. We will assist ADEM any way we can to help them serve our residents. I personally thank Gov. Asa Hutchinson for his interest in surveying the damage of the storm, joining me and Sen. John Cooper in visiting the impacted areas. It's comforting to have leaders who care making decisions that affect so many lives.

A state call center will be established for Craighead County residents to receive more information and apply for State individual assistance.
