Passing of 2015 legislation allowing county courthouse employees in Arkansas to carry concealed handguns on county properties has sparked action for 2 Northeast Arkansas counties.
KAIT-TV reportsthe Cross County Quorum Court approved an ordinance Monday allowing full-time employees and elected official to carry handguns on the property.
According to County Judge Donnie Sanders, the issue was first brought up in February in response to the active shooter incident at Arkansas State University in December 2015. Employees must have a state issued concealed carry license, take an active shooter class through the sheriff’s department, and register with the courthouse security committee.
Meanwhile, a similar ordinance will be discussed today (Thursday) in Mississippi County. The Jonesboro Sun reports county officials have been in talks with Falkner County officials for ideas on how to make the ordinance fit Mississippi County.
In 2015, Falkner County was the first in the state to pass a concealed carry ordinance.
The meeting takes place at the Mississippi County jail at 1pm.
