Jonesboro City Council Committee Pushes $1,000,000 in Pay Raises

The Jonesboro City Council Finance Committee is considering an ordinance which could add more than $1 million to the city employee pay plan.

Committee Chairman Darrell Dover told KAIT-TV that full-time city employees would receive a $1,000 pay increase.  Full-time employees with more than one year of service would receive $75 for every year employed up to 30 years annually for longevity pay.

The plan comes after a 6 month study performed by a special committee appointed by Mayor Harold Perrin and the management services company the Johansen Group.  Perrin appointed the group to look at longevity, raises, and incentives for city employees.

The Fayetteville based Johansen Group provided a market analysis comparing Jonesboro’s current pay plan with other cities with similar populations, such as Fort Smith, Paragould, and Pine Bluff.  Analysis showed Jonesboro’s city employees were paid 6.57% below market salaries.

According to Dover, cost of living adjustments and raises will be addressed annually by the city council and the mayor.

The salary plan will be reviewed by the full city council at the February 16th meeting.
