NEA in Motion: Arkansas State starts search for new men's basketball coach

Arkansas State University is looking for a new men's basketball coach after Grant McCasland resigned Monday.  McCasland is now the men's basketball coach for the North Texas Mean Green.  .  McCasland was 20 and 12 overall and 11 and seven in the Sun Belt Conference as the Red Wolves head men’s coach.

McCasland had a buyout of at least 500-thousand dollars in his contract, which will go to Arkansas State in the next 20 business days.  A-State’s Athletic Director Terry Mohajir offered a contract extension to McCasland about two weeks ago.  Mohajir says he was contacted by North Texas Friday about discussing the basketball coaching position with McCasland.

Mohajir says the search for the new coach starts now and will include ASU System President Dr. Charles Welch, Interim Chancellor Dr. Doug Whitlock and the same search committee that was used to bring in McCasland.
