Unseasonably low temperatures predicted for Arkansas in early December.

The coldest temperatures of the year in Arkansas are expected to arrive later this week.

Meteorologist Jeff Hood with the National Weather Service said the temperatures, which have already been unseasonably low, are expected to drop even lower. Rain is expected for much of the state, but no significant snowfall is anticipated.

“The main story is not the wintery precipitation,” said Hood, “It’s the amount of cold air coming with this system. High temperatures across the state Thursday, Friday, and even into Saturday won’t make it out of the 30s for much of the state. Portions of northern Arkansas could see temperatures only in the 20s on Thursday and Friday.”

Hood recommends making preparations for the cold air by checking on people, pets, and plants that may be in danger as a result of sustained low temperatures.
