Virtual Cabaret Thrives In The Pandemic

The outlook for theater actors has been dire lately. Live performance has suffered huge losses during the pandemic. Packed audiences and crowded backstage areas aren’t coming back anytime soon.

But there’s a small bright spot: One art form that actually does work fairly well on a computer screen is cabaret. With its confessional atmosphere and its often smaller audiences, producers are finding ways to replicate the experience online.

As reporter Jeff Lunden discovered, some cabaret performers are now even being paid.
