The Public Services Committee of the Jonesboro City Council has forwarded to the full council a proposal for new ward boundaries. The information is based on the numbers from the 2020 Census information.
Chief Administrative Officer Brian Richardson says the goal was to make each ward boundary more equal in population.
The main changes are that ward 2 in Jonesboro would gain at least 1,000 people and ward 6 would lose about 1,000 people. Those numbers would come out of ward 3 to try to keep the population as equal as possible in each ward.
E-F-S Geotechnologies Geographic Information Systems software was used by the city for the redrawing of the new ward boundaries.
The proposed boundaries must be approved by the Jonesboro City Council.
