In 1996, violinist Mark O'Connor, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and bassist Edgar Meyer released the enormously popular Appalachia Waltz CD, a recording that brought together the elegance of the musicians' classical training with the energy and rhythmic drive of American and Celtic roots music. The trio followed up in 2000 with the highly acclaimed Appalachian Journey, but shortly after, the members went their separate ways.

O'Connor, having written a wealth of unrecorded music for the trio, established a new chamber group to pick up where the first one left off. The new Appalachia Waltz Trio unites O'Connor with violist Carol Cook and cellist Natalie Haas and continues the musical exploration of Americana.

They perform a folk medley from their CD Crossing Bridges at NPR's Studio 4A.
