As part of Newport’s Monster Nights Downtown Entertainment Series, KASU Public Radio and Arkansas Steel Associates have teamed up to bring you Monster Groovez Concerts. The concerts will take place on the third Tuesday of the month in May and June. We will skip over the summer heat of July, and resume the series in August, September, and October.
All concerts are free and last from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The concerts will be held downtown Newport, at the Terry Scroggins Memorial Stage in Front Street Park. In case of rain, the performance will be moved inside to Frankie’s Place, 306 Front Street, in Newport.
Monster Groovez will continue on Wednesday, September 18, at 7:00pm, with a performance by Jubilation Jazz.
Jubilation Jazz is a diverse group of musicians from across the state of Arkansas who come together regularly to share the good news of Jesus Christ through the medium of big band music. The band performs in churches, in prisons, at local festivals and has traveled overseas to the countries of Jordan, Brazil, Trinidad, St. Kitts and Mexico. Their musical repertoire includes instrumental and vocal renditions of gospel standards, contemporary worship songs, a few big band “standards”, and original works by members of the band.
The band was formed in 1997 by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention of Arkansas and became an independent organization in 2005. Jubilation Jazz is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose goal is to share the good news of Jesus Christ and his salvation using the big band sound.
