The City of Jonesboro has been awarded a grant totaling $31,353 for the purchase of computer software and computer hardware that will aid in facilitating more efficient police operations.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant provides funds to police departments to purchase technology related items. The grant was awarded by the Department of Justice. It will provide $16,934 for crash-data software that can aid investigations of traffic crashes and $14,419 for e-ticket equipment to be installed in 14 Jonesboro Police Department cruisers.
“This is good for our city and assists our police force, and it’s another example of how we seek and acquire state and federal grants to supplement tax receipts,” Mayor Harold Perrin said. “We could never have all these things with sales tax dollars alone.”
The purchase of mobile scanners and printers will jump-start the police department’s migration to the E-Ticket system that will decrease time at traffic stops. With this equipment, JPD will also be able to take advantage of the E-Crash software provided, at no cost, by the state which will eventually replace its current accident reporting software.
