The Jonesboro Police Department is conducting sobriety checkpoints Friday night as part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Officers will be using the Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile, which is based at Black River Technical College’s Law Enforcement Training Academy in Pocahontas. Public Information Specialist with the Jonesboro Police Department Paul Holmes tells what makes the vehicle unique.
“Not only can we test those who may have been drinking and driving, but this vehicle is the first in the nation to also be able to test for drugs as well. Officers will be out Friday night conducting those tests.”
Holmes says he hopes a strong message will be delivered Friday night.
“As you know, Friday night is the start of the holiday weekend and we want to make sure that we are sending a message that we will have a full presence this weekend. We hope this will carry through the weekend.”
Holmes says the Jonesboro Police Department will be out in full force this holiday weekend. He says about 20 to 25 driving while intoxicated arrests occur every month.
