Craighead County has been stepping up its efforts to collect delinquent taxes from businesses. Craighead County Tax Collector Marsha Phillips provided a report to the Craighead County Quorum Court’s Public Service Committee. She says some businesses owe taxes as far back as 2008. She tells KASU news her staff of ten have been making a lot of phone calls over the past month to collect, and she says the efforts have been working. Phillips provided the latest collection efforts over the past month:
Marsha Phillips is Craighead County’s Tax Collector. Dating back from 2008, Craighead County is still owed over 611-thousand dollars in delinquent business taxes. Last night, the Public Service Committee of the Craighead County Quorum Court discussed how the county could continue collecting what is owed. The possibility of placing liens on those properties was discussed. Phillips says that would be a LAST resort. She tells what takes place before liens are filed:

Marsha Phillips. Last night’s discussion was just focused on business taxes that were delinquent. Delinquent personal property taxes are also being collected. Phillips says she expects those who are behind may use their tax refunds to pay on their taxes.
