Two groups on opposite ends of proposed ordinances to reduce the Craighead County-Jonesboro Public Library's funding will discuss the topic at the NEA Political Animals club meeting on Oct. 28.
NEA Political Animals are asking the public to submit questions to the groups for the forum and to RSVP by emailing neapoliticalanimals@gmail.com by Oct. 26. The group Citizens Taxed Enough are backing proposals to reduce the library's millage which would cut the library's property tax income in half.
An opposition group called Save Our Libraries are working to defeat the proposals. Save Our Libraries said on Oct. 18 that the group received a $25,000 donation supporting their effort by romance novelist Nora Roberts.
The Jonesboro Sun had reported that Citizens Taxed Enough had raised $2,000 in contributions towards their effort, but has received the backing of some conservative lawmakers, such as state Sen. Dan Sullivan and U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford.
