Gus Malzahn to accept ASU head football job

Several Sources are reporting that Arkansas native Gus Malzahn will become the next head football coach at Arkansas State University.  University officials have called a news conference for 3:30 this afternoon at the Convocation Center to make the announcement.  Malzahn comes to ASU from Auburn, where he has been the offensive coordinator.  He also spent two years at Tulsa.  He spent 2006 at the University of Arkansas as offensive coordinator.  He was also a high school coach in the state, winning three championships.  Malzahn was the 2010 Broyles Award Winner as the nation’s top assistant coach and was making one point three million dollars annually at Auburn. Details on Malzahn’s financial package have not been released.  Malzahn will replace Former Coach Hugh Freeze who took the head coaching position at Ole Miss.  Arkansas State had a 10-win season and will be playing in the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Alabama on January eighth.
