Harrisburg Road bridge re-opened

Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department

This press release from the City of Jonesboro:

The Harrisburg Road-Interstate 555 overpass is fully re-opened less than two weeks after a tractor-trailer rig crashed into a support beam, killing the driver and causing severe structural damage to the bridge.

Crews from the Arkansas Department of Transportation have worked around the clock to first reopen a lane of traffic on the bridge that initially was estimated to require months to repair.

“This was a tragic accident, and there’s no way to minimize that,” Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said. “But it seemed apparent that the bridge damage would create havoc for drivers all summer, and our state highway department has truly come through for Jonesboro to re-open that overpass.”
