Jonesboro Mayor Recommends Not Adopting Old Fairgrounds Road

After meeting with local businesses Friday, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin is against adopting Dayton Avenue as part of a deal in the Old Fairground Bankruptcy case.

The Jonesboro Sun reports Perrin asked the Jonesboro City Council to delay the decision to adopt the roadway.  He said he needed time to meet with neighboring businesses and receive financial assistance to bring the road up to city standards.

Perrin said he received negative responses from businesses concerning the issue.  City officials also projected it would cost the city over $300,000 to bring the street up to city standards.

An attorney handling the bankruptcy case for the Old Fairgrounds suggest the city adopt the road after he told the council of some interested parties who would build in the area.  The parties would build only if the city adopted the road.  Jonesboro has an ordinance which does not allow the adoption of a road until it is brought up to city standards.

The Craighead County Fair Association, who owns the land, owes more than $9.6 million to various creditors.  The city council will have the final decision to adopt the roadway which connects Red Wolf Blvd. to Fair Park Blvd.
