Recently, the Arkansas Department of Education held teacher signing ceremonies at Arkansas State University to celebrate teachers who were signing certificates to get ready to go into the classroom. 

The Scarlet to Black financial program is designed to provide information for students about how to come up with a personal budgeting plan.  Associate Professor of Finance at Arkansas State University Dr. Philip Tew developed the program.  Tew is Director of Scarlet to Black, as well as Director of the Center for Economic Education at A-State.  The Scarlet to Black program will be expanded as it continues next year.  Telling us more is Dr.

On April 27, the third annual Susan G. Komen Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure will be held at Arkansas State University.  Race Chair Amanda Herget talks about the events, which she says will start on Friday, the 26th and carry over to the 27th.   Click on the listen button for the entire interview.

Dr. Lynita Cooksey has held several titles during her time at Arkansas State University, and is currently the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at A-State.   She will be retiring June 30th and Alan Utter will take over the position July first.  Utter comes to Arkansas State from Texas Women’s University, where he is currently provost and vice president for academic affairs.  KASU News Director Johnathan Reaves talked to Dr. Cooksey and her career at A-State and her remembrances of Arkansas State.  Click on the Listen button to hear the entire interview.

This is A-State Connections on KASU.  On Monday and Tuesday at Arkansas State, around 80 students will be celebrated for making a choice to teach in public schools.  The University is joining the Arkansas Department of Education to host singing ceremonies for education students who are about to start their careers in the classroom.  Dr. Mary Jane Bradley is Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Arkansas State University. This is A-State Connections on KASU.    Homelessness among veterans is a national problem.  One housing project is designed to help address that issue in Jonesboro and the region.  In a little over two years, homeless veterans can be placed in transitional housing called Veterans Village.  Nine homes will be built for qualifying veterans.  Those placed will receive basic necessities and services to help get them back on their feet.

Remembering Charles Luter.  The 80-year-old Paragould native was a proud supporter of A-State and education in his community.  Luter graduated from A-State in 1966 with a degree in business administration. 

He would become the president of Peoples Bank in Paragould and CEO of Spring River Bancshares, Inc.  He also was chairman of Peoples Bank in Imboden and was director of First Delta Bank in Marked Tree.

Reng Student Union.  Telling us about the annual conference is Dr. Patricia Robertson.  She is Department Chair of the Department of Economics and Finance and Professor of Business Law.  She is also the Faculty Coordinator for Women’s Business Leadership Center at A-State.  She tells about the conference.

The annual Neil Griffin College of Business Women’s Business Leadership Conference takes place on Thursday, March 28th from 9:30 to two at Centennial Hall at the Carl R. Reng Student Union.  One of the speakers of a breakout session at the conference is Whitney Burgess.  She is the Director of Strategy and Client Services at Team S.I.

This is A-State Connections.  Last week on A-State Connections, Arkansas State University Chancellor Dr. Kelly Damphousse told us about Dr. Abhijit Bhattacharyya.  He is the inaugural dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science.  Bhattacharyya will start his position July first.

He has spent the last 18 years at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  For the past two and a half years, Bhattacharyya has served as the interim vice provost for research and dean of the graduate school at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock).

Two faculty members from the A-State Music Department are in the midst of a major undertaking: performing all ten of Beethoven’s Sonatas for Piano and Violin in concert.  KASU’s Marty Scarbrough recently spoke with pianist Dr. Lauren Schack-Clark and violinist Dr. Chi-Young Song.  Marty first asked them to explain what a “sonata” is. ASU System

Last week, The College Of The Ouachitas Board of Trustees and ASU System Board of Trustees approved resolutions authorizing the merger of the College of the Ouachitas into the ASU System.  The meeting was held in the Administration Building on the campus in Malvern. ASU System Board Chair Niel Crowson and COTO Board Chair Bill Fowler signed the agreement and transition plan, along with board secretaries, Price Gardner and Rodney Allen.
