The Arkansas Agriculture Department’s Forestry Commission (AFC) has suppressed 103 wildfires that burned 1,805 acres in the last four days, and now, 59 of 75 Arkansas counties are under high wildfire danger. Current drought conditions and weather forecasts for low humidity and gusty winds will create elevated wildfire danger across Arkansas through this week.

Federal lawsuits are pending over a project to build a transmission line through Arkansas delivering wind energy from Oklahoma to the Memphis area. In this week’s issue of Arkansas Business there’s a closer look at the arguments involved in the case involving two groups of landowners who would have to sell property.

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag fire warnings for parts of  Eastern Arkansas in the KASU listening area.

The warning is in effect from late Thursday morning until  7pm tonight.  Counties included in the warning are Baxter, Stone, Fulton, Sharp, Izard, Independence, & Cleburne.

The Associated Press reports the weather services says grass, vegetation, and wood in these areas will be very dry due to a very low humidity.  Mixed with strong winds of up to 45 mph, fires outdoors have the potential to spread quickly.
