The March 31st Republican primary runoff for the State Representative District 53 race ends with a victory for Lake City Mayor Jon Milligan.  Milligan defeated Cole Peck with an unofficial vote count of 624-290.  A total of 914 votes were cast in the election.  73 votes were cast absentee, 494 early votes, and 347 votes were cast on Tuesday.  Milligan will face Democrat Shawn Only in the November election for the seat.

Only two candidates will be onstage for Sunday's Democratic primary debate: former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. The CNN-Univision debate was relocated from Arizona to Washington, D.C., and will not have an in-person audience due to coronavirus concerns.

Arkansas Democrats coalesced behind Joe Biden in his bid for president. Member Station KUAR's Michael Hibblen talked with Heather Yates, political science professor at the University of Central Arkansas and has a look on the factors that came together

In the Arkansas primaries yesterday, Craighead County voters had their say on three contested races.  In the State Senate District 21 race, Representative Dan Sullivan defeated John Cooper and won that seat.  In the State Representative District 53 race, Cole Peck and Jon Milligan will be involved in a March 31st runoff.  Bobby Long only picked up 26% of the vote.  The winner of that race will face Democrat Shawn Only in November.  In the State Representative District 58 race, Brant Smith defeated Ken Yarbrough in the Republican primary.  Smith will face Democrat Jim Burton in November.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Former Arkansas governor and senator David Pryor and his son, former senator Mark Pryor, are supporting Joe Biden's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. The former vice president's campaign announced the endorsements from the Pryors on Tuesday. Arkansas is holding its primary on March 3 along with more than a dozen other states. David Pryor served as Arkansas governor from 1975 to 1979 and went on to serve three terms in the U.S. Senate. Mark Pryor served two terms in the Senate before losing re-election in 2014.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Bernie Sanders says he raised a whopping $25 million in January and will use his Democratic presidential campaign's flush bank account to increase television and digital advertising in 10 states. The Vermont senator spent $50 million during the final three months of 2019 and finished the year with $18.2 million in cash on hand. Sanders' campaign manager announced Thursday the candidate will immediately increase staffing in states that vote during the Democratic primary's Super Tuesday, on March 3.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Disgraced former Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada has confirmed he will run for reelection this year. Casada made the announcement Tuesday on a social media post. The 60-year-old Casada, a Republican from Franklin, has been a state lawmaker since 2003. He won nearly 70% of the vote against his Democratic opponent in 2018. Casada resigned from the top leadership post in August after revelations he exchanged sexually explicit text messages about women with his former chief of staff years ago.

The candidate filing period in Arkansas starts at noon on Monday (11/4) and is expected to last until  Tuesday, November 12.  Michael Hibblen, News Director with KUAR , spoke to Hal Bass, policital science professor at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelpha, about what to expect for the 2020 election in Arkansas.

September's Democratic presidential debate has been narrowed to one night only, as more candidates have called it quits altogether.

Ten candidates are on stage for three-hour event hosted by ABC News and Univision, beginning at 7 p.m. C.T. It's the third debate of the campaign and the first time that former Vice President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are all together.

State Rep. Fran Cavenaugh, R-Walnut Ridge, will seek re-election to state House District 60. Cavenaugh was first elected in 2016 and is in her second term representing the district, which includes portions of Lawrence, Randolph, Sharp, and Greene counties.
