Opponents to Property Maintenance Code turn in over 5,000 signatures

Opponents of Jonesboro’s Property Maintenance Code have turned in over five-thousand signatures to the Jonesboro City Clerk’s office.  Attorney Travis Story turned in a box full of petitions.  Story says the goal is to have those signatures certified so a special election can occur either May 3 or May 10 to allow citizens to vote on the controversial code.  Story comments:

The city council had a 6-6 tie concerning the code on December 15^th and Mayor Harold Perrin broke the tie.  The city will start to enforce the code next month.  The city plans to hold two education sessions about the code Wednesday afternoon at the Jonesboro City Council Chambers.  The first meeting is at 3 and the second meeting is at 5.
