Jonesboro Police say a shooting where two teenage boys were injured on Monday night happened when a gun one of the boys were handling accidentally went off.

Jonesboro Police are releasing new details on a shooting Monday night where two juveniles were injured.

The department announced on Facebook on Tuesday that the shooting was ruled as accidental. The two teenage boys were sitting in a stairwell at the 2000 block of Belt Street when a gun one of the boys were handling accidentally went off, striking them both.

The two were transported and later released from St. Bernards Hospital.

The teens were facing charges of 1st degree battery and aggravated assault, but they were reduced to a charge for discharging firearms in city limits.

Authorities say the case has also been transferred to the Juvenile Department for any further action.
