The body of Howard Earl Holmes, 70, was found in a shallow ditch in Wynne on November 28. An investigation into his death is ongoing.

Arkansas State Police confirmed on Wednesday that a body that was found in a ditch this week was that of an elderly Cross County man who had been missing for almost a month.

Authorities said the state medical examiner confirmed that the identity of the body was that of 70-year-old Howard Earl Holmes of Wynne. Wynne Police on November 22 asked state police to issue a Silver Alert for Holmes, who had been missing since November 2.

Last week, police were notified about a dead body found lying in a shallow ditch in the southwestern part of Wynne. Local authorities asked State Police to take the body to the crime lab for examination.

The circumstances of Holmes' death are still under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts dating back as far as November 2 to contact state police or the Wynne Police Department.
