A Palestinian prisoner who alleges he was sexually abused in an Israeli prison says he is telling his story to highlight the rise in abuse by prison authorities since the war in Gaza began in 2023.

Hadeel al-Shalchi is an editor with Weekend Edition. Prior to joining NPR, Al-Shalchi was a Middle East correspondent for the Associated Press and covered the Arab Spring from Tunisia, Bahrain, Egypt, and Libya.
