Jonesboro officials joined the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department for a ribbon cutting of Parker Road extension to Washington Avenue.  The two-point-two million dollar project was shared by both the state and the city.  Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin says the extension will help relieve traffic as well as help with future growth in the area.

"This will help open up this area for a lot of commercial and other growth," said Perrin.  "I think this will also help take about five to ten-percent of traffic off of Southwest Drive.  That might not sound like a lot of vehicles, but when you think of the thousands of vehicles that travel down Southwest Drive every day, it is a lot."

The Highway Department says they have to finish striping the road and finish shoulder work on the two lane connector.  It should be open to the public next week.
