Two communities are in mourning after two Northeast Arkansas police officers passed away over the weekend.

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller told content partners KAIT on July 15 that Piggott Police Officer Cody Carter died in "a tragic incident".

Then, on July 19 the Jonesboro Police Department posted on Facebook that Patrolman Vincent Parks died during training exercises at the Central Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock.

JPD said Parks had completed several weeks of in-house training in Jonesboro on June 15.

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver says flags will be flown at half-staff in the city in memory of Parks. Copenhaver said he's asked Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson to also request flags to be lowered across the state.
