Jonesboro special election set, road projects to move forward

www.jonesboro.org

A special election, railroads, and the Miracle League ballpark were the main topics discussed during last night’s Jonesboro City Council meeting.  As expected, the Jonesboro City Council approved a special election to fill a vacant seat of former Alderman Tim McCall.  McCall resigned his seat last month, which opens up Ward 6, Position 1.  The special election will occur May 10th and the filing deadline for candidates will be March 11th.  In other news, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin says he will be meeting with highway and railroad officials about future work later this year.  Work to upgrade all the city’s railroad crossings is expected to take place this year, as well as bids are expected to be approved this summer for work to start on building the railroad overpass at Nettleton and Highway 18 in Jonesboro. The $1.4 million dollar Parker Road extension is expected to take place this year, which would extend Parker Road to Washington Avenue.  Also, the Jonesboro City Council approved a promissory note that restructures the remaining funding of Miracle League ballpark in Jonesboro.  The note is for the amount of $400,000 and expected to be paid in full by 2017.
