Ballot order set for May 10 special election in Jonesboro

The ballot order for an alderman race in Jonesboro has been set.  The Craighead County Election Commission conducted a draw in Jonesboro for the five people that are running for the Ward 6, Position 1 position that was left vacant by Tim McCall.  He resigned in January after serving 15 years on the Jonesboro City Council. McCall resigned after he moved out of his ward.

Here is the ballot order:

1.  Bobby E. Long

2.  Joseph R. Woodbury

3.  James W. Bowman

4.  Phillip Cook

5.  Richard Wang

If there is a runoff, it will take place at the end of May. The position will be filled by the winner until December 31, 2018.

Also, the May 10th election will feature whether Jonesboro citizens will approve the controversial property maintenance code.  Opponents of the code got enough signatures required to put the issue before voters.    Those for the code say it will help reduce dilapidated buildings in Jonesboro and help increase property values.  Those against the code say they are against the interior requirements of the code and are afraid of CODE officers entering into homes at any time.  The cost of a special election in Jonesboro is $20,000.
