The 604 KASU Newscast: Craighead Co. Sheriff Seeks Expanded Jail

This is the 6:04 KASU newscast for Tuesday, September 12th.  Here are the headlines reported this morning:

  • CRAIGHEAD COUNTY JAIL:  Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd says the county jail needs an expansion.  He told the Craighead County Quorum Court the 29-year-old jail needs more bed to accommodate the growing population in the county.
  • MEDICAL MARIJUANA:  Arkansans have one week left to apply for a license to cultivate and dispense medical marijuana.  Member Station KUAR reports a state Department of Finance and Administration spokesman said 27 applications have been received, which falls below their expectations.
  • BIG CATS-ARKANSAS:  (by the Associated Press) An Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokesman says authorities are investigating the discovery of seven tigers, six lions and a leopard in a barn in Arkansas. Spokesman Randy Zellers says that the animals were discovered Saturday in Poinsett County in cages. Zellers says they are owned by a man from England who was keeping them until they could be flown to Germany. But he didn't have the paperwork to bring them to Arkansas.

More local and regional news can be heard weekdays during NPR’s Morning Edition (5 a.m. to 9 a.m.) at 91.9 FM and on KASU.org.
