Red Cross Disaster Assistance Hotline Deadline Extended

Talk Business and Politics

JONESBORO, AR, The American Red Cross of Northeast Arkansas continues to help individuals affected by the March 28 tornado damage. Residents whose homes sustained major damage, whether rented or owned, who have not yet contacted the Red Cross are encouraged to call the Disaster Assistance Hotline at 417-447-7180, which has been extended to stay open longer.

The hotline will now operate from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. from Sunday, April 5, through Friday, April 10. Due to the high volume of calls, residents may need to leave a message and are asked to leave detailed information for call back. To reach the Red Cross outside of the above hours, call the Jonesboro chapter office at 870-932-3212Callers should have a picture ID and proof of address on hand when calling. If all identifying documents were destroyed in the tornado, caseworkers can work with individuals to discuss other options for verification. Spanish-speaking caseworkers are available.

Red Cross responders have been in the community providing relief supplies to residents affected by the storm damage. Nearly 1,200 comfort kits and over 550 clean up kits have been distributed to residents. Red Cross clean-up kits include bleach, a bucket, scrubbers and sponges, mops, brooms, long-handle squeegees, garbage bags, and gloves. Comfort kits are basic health care items like washcloths, soap, and mouthwash. Over 700 households in Craighead County have been served by the Red Cross following these tornadoes.

The safety and wellbeing of both our workforce and our community members is the top priority for the Red Cross. Red Cross teams are coordinating closely with local emergency officials and observing current guidelines for social distancing and appropriate health-safety precautions.
