But, despite rigorous protests, Louisiana schools were under court order to integrate and so Ruby Bridges, escorted by federal marshalls, continued first grade at the Frantz School in New Orleans all by herself. The only other person Ruby saw througout most of her first year was her teacher - Barbara Henry.
