KASU Premiers New Shows in October

New season; new shows! KASU 91.9 F.M., with the support of our loyal listeners, is adding several brand new shows beginning on Saturday, October 2.

The changes also include an extra hour of Arkansas Roots on Saturdays, a timeless jazz show hosted by a grammy-award winning singer on Sunday nights, enchanting sounds from the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival on Friday nights, a new edition from the Marketplace family, and a rotating roster of entertaining and thought provoking programing weeknights at 6.

Here's a full list of the shows and changes:

Saturdays

If you are exhausted by the news but can't seem to focus on anything else, this new weekly show with former NPR political reporter Sam Sanders will help. It's Been a Minute is an irreverent, casual space to process the pace of current events and get introduced to new favorites in music, TV and more. It's a wrap of the week paired with deep dive interviews with musicians, actors, and newsmakers. As Sam says, "The world is complicated; let's talk it out." Hear It's Been a Minute with Sam Sanders.
Arkansas Roots is a radio program celebrating the music of Arkansas musicians past and present in a variety of musical genres.  Arkansas Roots features songs by Arkansans as well as songs by musicians scheduled to perform at venues in the KASU listening area. The hosts of Arkansas Roots also inform listeners of upcoming performances and concerts.
Ozark Highlands Radio is an hour-long public radio program that features live musical performances recorded at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Arkansas. With archival recordings from native Ozark musicians to the contemporary Roots/Old Time performers of today, Ozark Highlands Radio explores the history, tradition and current trends in traditional and modern acoustic music.In addition to the live performances Ozark Highlands Radio also features interviews with performers, feature host and guest contributor segments, and web only content including jam sessions and expanded interviews.

Weeknights @ 6

Code Switch and Life Kit debuted as a broadcast program the weekend of August 13, 2021, bringing Member station audiences an hour of important ideas and practical advice. Every week, listeners will hear stories about race and identity that expand their minds, and learn practical ways to make their lives better. It's lifelong learning that ranges from the big picture to tiny details and everything in between.
Throughline is a weekly one-hour narrative history series. Each episode tackles the history behind today's headlines, and takes the listener back in time to understand the present. These are stories you can feel and sounds you can see from the moments that shaped our world.
Host Shankar Vedantam brings his signature knowledge, wit and sense of humor to this one-hour weekly program, airing Wednesdays at 6:00 P.M. on KASU. A blend of science and storytelling, Hidden Brain reveals the patterns that drive human behavior, the biases that shape our choices, and the imperceptible forces that influence our relationships. It's a program that helps curious people understand the world, current events, and themselves.
Planet Money and How I Built This is a one-hour weekly program on business and entrepreneurship. Planet Money explains the economy with playful storytelling and Peabody award-winning deep dive, roll up your sleeves journalism. Guy Raz hosts How I Built This, where innovators, entrepreneurs, and idealists take us through the often challenging journeys they took to build their now iconic companies.
A-State Connections informs you of the many ways which in Arkansas State University is connecting to people in the region, across the state and around the world.

New Music Shows

Singer Nancy Wilson hosts this Gold Medal award-winning, documentary series chronicling the people, places and events in jazz. Jazz Profiles features jazz topics that are varied and all-encompassing, but focuses largely on individuals. Musicians who have been featured in-depth on Jazz Profiles include Dave Brubeck, Sarah Vaughan, Oscar Peterson, Sonny Rollins, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Charlie Parker.
Join us on a musical journey to the foothills of New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains as we present thirteen new, music-filled hours from the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Founded in 1972, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival is one of the world’s leading performing arts festivals, earning both critical praise and dedicated audiences for its lasting commitment to tradition, artistic excellence, and vision. This series reflects the Festival’s high standards by offering a varied selection of superbly recorded concerts by the greatest of classical artists.
