Bluegrass Monday Concert: The Family Sowell

The Family Sowell will perform at the next KASU-FM Bluegrass Monday concert. The show will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Collins Theatre, 120 West Emerson Street, in Paragould.

The musicians in the Family Sowell are five siblings ranging in age from their late teens to their 20s. Originally from Texas, the family moved to East Tennessee in order to pursue a long-term, professional musical career. Each sibling has been playing music since they were young children, and the family has produced over a dozen albums.

The Family Sowell performs a wide variety of acoustic music including bluegrass standards, gospel music, original compositions, and their unique arrangements of popular songs from country, rock and pop music. To write their original songs, band members have collaborated with award-winning bluegrass songwriters Donna Ulisse and Jerry Salley. The group maintains a very busy touring schedule, performing at churches, festivals and bluegrass venues across the country.

Abby Sowell is the mandolinist and lead vocalist for the band. The other group members are guitarist Joshua Sowell, bassist Naomi Sowell, fiddler John-Mark Sowell, and resophonic guitarist Justus Sowell.

More details about the group can be found at www.thefamilysowell.com.

The admission fee is $10 per person, payable by cash at the door the night of the concert. Everyone aged 18 and under will be admitted free. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.kasu.org/tickets. Bluegrass Mondays are a non-profit event, and 100% of ticket proceeds go to the performers.

Bluegrass Monday concerts are held on the fourth Monday night of each month. These concerts are presented with support from sponsors including the Paragould Advertising & Promotion Commission, Bibb Chiropractic Center, Gardner-Milner Law Firm, the Posey Peddler, Hyde Park Café, Holiday Inn Express and Suites of Paragould, and KASU.
