9th Case of Zika Confirmed in Arkansas

Brandon Tabor, KASU News

A 9th case of the Zika Virus has been contracted in Arkansas.  The Arkansas Department of Health confirmed the case Tuesday, according to their website.

So far, all of the Zika Virus cases in the state have been contracted from a person traveling to an area where the virus is prevalent.  In the U.S., 21 locally contracted cases were reported within a one square block in Miami, Florida.

Arkansas Department of Health Director Dr. Nate Smith recommends people to avoid mosquito bites for 10 days after returning from a place where Zika is present.

Prevention tips can be found on the department’s website at healthy.arkansas.gov.
