Council to Consider Adopting Road at Bankrupt Old Fairgrounds

City of Jonesboro

The Jonesboro City Council is considering to adopt a stretch of road on the bankrupt Old Fairgrounds to help pay off debt.

KAIT-TV reports Rick Ramsey,  Lawyer from Little Rock and fairground liquidated agent, told the council Tuesday an entity was interested in purchasing lot 7 on the fairground, however the contract stipulates the city to accept the road.

The road in question is the road linking Fair Park Blvd. with Red Wolf Blvd.  City policy only accepts a new road after it has been brought up to city standards.  Ramsey asked the council to make an exception to the policy saying it’s “a street the city needs.”

The Jonesboro Sun reports the Craighead County Fair Association owes over $6.2 million for the Old Fairground and $3.4 million for construction of the new fairground on East Johnson Ave.

The full council is to consider the proposition at the Feb.16 meeting.
