A-State Faces Memphis in Future 4 Game Series

Arkansas State University

The Arkansas State University Red Wolves will play 4 games against the Memphis Tigers in a home-and-home series beginning in 2020.

A-State announced Monday the two teams will alternate venues, reviving A-State's longest running series against any opponent in school history.  Since 1914, A-State has played Memphis 57 times.  The last time the two teams faced off was in 2013 when A-State visited Memphis.

The press release and full schedule can be read below:

JONESBORO, Ark. (4/4/16) – The Arkansas State Athletics Department announced Monday its football team will play a home-and-home series, consisting of four games from 2020-23, with American Athletic Conference member Memphis.

The four-game addition to A-State’s future schedules will revive A-State’s longest series against any opponent in school history.  Arkansas State has played Memphis 57 times since the two teams first met in 1914.

“We appreciate (Memphis Athletics Director) Tom Bowen and the Memphis coaching staff for their efforts to get this series scheduled again,” said A-State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir.  “There is a lot of history between our two programs, and this will present an outstanding opportunity for both fan bases to travel for a great regional match-up, so we’re excited to get Memphis back on our football schedule.”

The 2020 game, set for Sept. 5 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, will mark the first meeting between A-State and Memphis since the 2013 season.   The two teams have split their last four games played, which included victories by the Red Wolves in both 2011 and 2012.

The 2021 contest will be played Sept. 11 and call for Memphis to return to Jonesboro for the first time since 2012, when the Red Wolves claimed a 33-28 victory.  A-State has won its last three home games versus Memphis, including a 47-3 victory in 2011 and a 2007 meeting that saw the Red Wolves overcome a 25-point halftime deficit.

The latest series will continue Sept. 3, 2022, in Memphis and conclude Sept. 9, 2023, at Centennial Bank Stadium.  The Tigers lead the all-time series 29-23-5.

Season tickets for the Red Wolves’ 2016 football campaign, which includes six home games, are now available for purchase. Arkansas State has strung together 11 consecutive years with a winning home record dating back to 2005 and has won 26 of its last 30 games at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Tickets may be purchased through the A-State Ticket Office, located at the Convocation Center’s lower red entrance, in person, by phone at 870-972-2781 or online by clicking the “Tickets” link located at the top of the AStateRedWolves.com home page.
