A Jonesboro Advertising and Promotions Commission committee is eyeing a couple of possible locations for a new indoor sports complex.
A steering committee for the sports complex met on July 26 to discuss some possible locations for the facility to recommend to the full A&P commission for approval.
Officials say the most recommended location is a vacant lot across from the Trim Gym on Race Street which is currently owned by A-State. Another likely location is the Turtle Creek Mall, which was mostly destroyed by a tornado in 2020 with only a few businesses now in operation.
A 2% prepared foods tax, or "hamburger tax", went into effect at the beginning of the year to pay for the facility. Officials say the tax has since generated over $2 million.
