Judge Curt Huckaby’s passing last week (Tuesday) has left a vacancy for the Craighead County District Judge seat which leaves the task of filling the seat with Governor Asa Hutchinson.
The Jonesboro Sun reports Hutchinson on Monday began the process of appointing a judge to finish out Huckaby’s term which ends December 31st. District Judge-elect Tommy Fowler will then take the seat in January.
County Judge Ed Hill told the Sun that the county can make recommendations for who can fill the seat.
Since Fowler will fill the seat next year, state law prohibits him from serving the position on an appointed basis.
