Shipman Withdraws in Craighead Co. Sherriff Race

Brandon Tabor, KASU News

GOP Candidate for Craighead County Sheriff John Shipman has withdrawn from the November election.  County Clerk Kade Holliday’s office on Wednesday received Shipman’s written request to withdraw.

However, Shipman’s name will remain on the ballot since he submitted his withdrawal beyond the 75 day deadline required by state law according to Holliday.  The Jonesboro Sun reports Shipman stated in his request that it was in his “family’s best interest” that he withdrawal from the race “due to recent issues that have occurred.”

In late August, his son, Officer Adam Shipman, resigned from the Jonesboro Police Department amid an internal investigation.  Incumbent Democratic candidate Marty Boyd is now running unopposed for county Sherriff.
