Today General Motors and the United Auto Workers reached a tentative agreement that could end the seventeen-day strike against two parts plants. The strike has idled most of GM's North American plants and furloughed more than one hundred seventy five thousand workers. Linda Wertheimer speaks with NPR's Don Gonyea about what will happen after the union votes on the agreement. (3:30) 6. IMMIGRATION -- The House is due to vote today on a bill overhauling immigration laws. One of its provisions would allow states to deny public schooling to children of illegal immigrants. In addition, the House may follow the Senate's lead by splitting the measure into two parts, separating rules dealing with legal immigrants. Britain Blocks Manuscript Sale To Getty Museum
The Getty Museum in Los Angeles reportedly paid more than $6 million recently at an auction in London for a 15th century illuminated manuscript. The Los Angeles Times reports Britain's culture minister has blocked the work from leaving the country — putting it under an export embargo.

Apple reaches tentative contract agreement with unionized store employees in Maryland

New data released by the FBI show violent crime and property crime both fell in 2023 compared to the previous year.
All The Wealth We Lost And Regained Since The Recession Started
American households lost roughly $16 trillion in net worth since the recession started in 2007. According to the latest Fed data, we regained about $14.6 trillion, or roughly 91 percent, of it. But let's not break out the champagne glasses just yet.
