President Obama has decided not to visit the former president in the hospital, out of deference to Nelson Mandela's peace and comfort. The 94-year-old anti-apartheid leader has been hospitalized for three weeks with a lung infection.

Edward Snowden has admitted giving information about National Security Agency programs to The Guardian and The Washington Post. He's thought to be at the international airport in Moscow and to be seeking sanctuary in another country, perhaps Ecuador.

The death of an elderly man in Las Vegas is being blamed on temperatures that have soared past 110 degrees in many places. The National Weather Service warns that it's going to stay brutally hot in the Southwest for at least a few more days.

Germany's Der Spiegel says it has seen more documents obtained by "NSA leaker" Edward Snowden. They allegedly show the U.S. has been eavesdropping on European Union offices. The White House has declined to comment.

Proponents of California's Proposition 8 had asked that marriages be suspended while they decide whether to ask the court to reconsider its ruling about that initiative. Meanwhile, gay pride celebrations were happening in cities across the U.S.
Banned From Marching, Russians Celebrate Gay Pride Online
Cities across the world are hosting gay pride festivals this weekend — but not Moscow. A court there has banned gay pride parades there for the next 100 years. So Russian LGBT activists will take virtual steps toward Red Square along a route marked with supportive tweets.
