A burn ban is in effect for several counties in Northeast Arkansas.
This week, county judges in Craighead, Cleburne, Poinsett, and Randolph issued bans to residents. The Arkansas Forestry Commission has classified several areas of Northeast Arkansas as being in a moderate wildfire danger.
In Craighead County, Judge Marvin Day says dry weather and dangerous conditions that could be brought about through open burning led to the burn ban. While the ban is in effect, it is against the law to burn leaves, trash, forest vegetation, or any other combustible materials.
The burn ban is in effect until there is enough rain to remedy the fire hazard situation.
