The Northeast Arkansas MLK Jr. Day Parade committee has several events scheduled to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy starting on Sunday, Jan. 19.

The NYIT Delta Care-A-Van will be in Wynne on Friday. The McKenny Pharmacy in Piggott will host a drive-thru clinic on Saturday.

Another 1.2 million people in Arkansas are eligible for COVID-19 vaccines, and efforts are ramping in Northeast Arkansas.

Runoffs in Craighead County include the race for Jonesboro City Clerk between Linda Allison and April Leggett. Unofficial totals from the Secretary of State's office showed that Allison received 48.31% (11,894) of the vote, while Leggett earned 37.01% (9,111).

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across the Natural State and since mid-September the transmission rate in Northeast Arkansas has been the highest in the state, according to the Arkansas Department of Health. The growth rate in the region was 7.4% from Sept. 13-19. It outpaced central Arkansas, which had a growth rate of 5.7%.
